Updated: Apr 13, 2022

Stroke is a neurological damage caused by the blockage of blood flow in an artery within the brain (ischemic stroke), or the the blood vessel burst within the brain(hemorrhagic stroke).

The key risk factors of stroke is hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and there are various genetic factors that play roles as well.

Some stroke may be caused by genetic factors. The major hereditary diseases that can lead to stroke are Moyamoya Disease, CADASIL; Cerebral Autosomal Dominant Arteriopathy With Subcortical Infarcts and Leukoencephalopathy.

If young individual with no risk factors (hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, smoking or drinking habit) show symptoms of hemorrhagic stroke or ischemic stroke, hereditary stroke should be suspected.
